What do you mean? You can go 8s for 8 grand. It's on the internet; it must be true.

You just have to pick which dollars count towards the $8K. The 1st two motors blown to smithereens and fire victim parts from the 2nd didn't count lol. I called BS and stopped following him for a bit. He's getting into unfriendly territory now boosting a Kia FTLOG!

Got them dang ol' $400 LS motors and those china turbos.....

I agree go for a full cage certifiable to 8.50. A cage is 1 5/8” tubing compared to 1 3/4” for a roll bar. Start there to save weight. And then tie the rear bars into the upper spring seats.

A 9 second car with a Junkyard engine? Seems ambitious but I'm sure it could be done although I ? the reliability of it.

I'm assuming you're on a budget if you're going with a junkyard motor. Most of the idiots you see on Street Outlaws have $300K into their cars (at least that what one of the 405 guys said at SEMA or PRI when asked). My BIL has a 7 sec supra and has turned down offers of $125K on the car several years ago he built the car over years and slowly grew his program. Bracket Racing at the track seems like a safer place to get your feet wet than a 9 sec street/no prep car.

I love G-Bodies but I don't think it's the chassis I'd start with today for building a 9 sec car on a budget. I'd go with a much cheaper and easier to find S-10; if you're going for a no-prep/street racer I think cutting it up, caging it and remove glass and replace with lexan and stuff in a turbo 6.0 you would have a fast car. I know people love seeing the Andrade LSx powered Cutty on Street Outlaws but that's no budget car.

Rogue_Ryder,

No junkyard motors. I was told the 1st one ran when pulled - so took a chance on a young guy not being a liar (he wasn't), and I seen the 2nd drive into the garage.

Ambitious? I guess, but maybe its not ambitious, but rather something other than a goal of cubic $$$$ to go fast. I agree that its easy to buy something built, but that's not me. I build.....not buy.

My car is a budget build and I expect it to see sub 9.5 as I learn and have fun learning. And yes, I'm on a budget. Most people running G's are budget oriented - so ill say that 'I resemble that remark' proudly. Anyone can buy something, but not everyone can build it.

Those street outlaw guys are not me - I'm not some a'hole running 150mph on the street for TV show feeds. I'm having fun, and being safe - in a G. Yes, I could've built a Fox body or Datsun, etc and go faster, but this is a G body site.

If you don't think it can be done, then follow along.

P.s. no lexan here - I have power GLASS windows. And i have parts from a junkyard in my car.
