Again, used parts that are questionable; a 66 w/425 that's cracked for $150, goody-goody-gumdrop.

Speaking of not reading the whole post, you apparently missed the point of "another 425 block for $50". The engine runs, the cracks are hairlines around a freeze plug, the reciprocating assembly and heads swap to the other block. That's a complete running 425 with forged crank and Torker intake for $200 plus the cost of rings, bearings, and gaskets, but apparently only you know anything...

That's nice you found a set of E heads for 100 bucks, good for you. Try pricing a set of "F" heads, which are the good ones everybody's after.

I don't waste my time. I leave those to the restorers (plus my 70 W-30 already has a set). Besides, if you're going to port the heads anyway, you might as well start with Js, since the end result will be the same. But clearly you already knew that too.

I've found some cheap stuff as well, to trashed to use right off the bat, with more $$$ to get them back into good working condition than worth being the norm.

Wow, must be nice to be able to only afford brand new stuff. I'm happy for you.

The 403s for $250, great for you. Boat-anchors, they make nice planters.

Yup. Also a nice bolt-in replacement for the 307 in my B-body wagon, which is never going to be a hot rod anyway.

You're listings are similar to articles that were in Car Craft over the past 1.5 years; you're not just copying those are you :? But then again you can't be as when they added the new hardware or the price to recondition the worn pieces the price was way more than what letting on.

Actually, I'm copying the stuff I wrote for the Olds FAQ at 442.com over 10 years ago. But since you already know everything about Oldsmobiles, I'm sure you never go there. Should we call you Mr. Mondello? You certainly have his attitude.

Again I looked all this up, not just recently but a long time ago when I did the first 350 swap, when there were less parts available than there are now. I remember when there weren't any aluminum heads available period and the only intake was the torker.

Wow, you must be good if you can get a big-block-only Torker to fit on a 350...

Or maybe are you thinking of the Victor manifold that was designed specifically to work with the Batten heads on a small block and was originally created for AJ Foyt's Olds-powered NASCAR effort in the 1970s. At the time, Batten heads came in both iron and aluminum. But, no, you "looked it up", so I must be mistaken.

By the way, in the 60s and 70s you could get the O4B (big block) and OL4B (small block) aluminum intakes and a dual plane dual quad big block intake from Edelbrock in addition to the Torker. Offy also sold a number of single plane, dual plane, and tunnel rams for both big and small. Algon made an eight stack FI intake for Olds (got one of those too) and Sharpe made blower mainfolds (real blower manifolds, not 4bbl intakes with welded on plates). A lot of this stuff is still available used. Apparently you didn't spend a lot of time "looking it up".

(You were lucky to find a W-31, and the hot ticket was swapping in 330 crank since they are forged, along with #5 - #7 heads, swap out the valves, etc - but you knew that right?) So if you had a SB you had to junkyard crawl to find parts for the 350 or go with the 455 - been there, done that many times. The point is you stated you can build an Olds cheap, cheaper than the SBC. Also, you stated that since there's less of them, demand is lower, the Olds parts are cheaper, that's simply not true. But then you come back and admit the SBC is cheaper to build. Which is it? Heck, I've rebuilt SBCs for the cost of the Edelbrock heads alone (new @ $1600 and used). If you can get thrashed & trashed cars/parts dirt cheap great, I'll keep your secret 😛 ; just don't leave out the refurb prices and the like.

Again, apparently you're the one who doesn't read the posts. What I said was used parts are in less demand for Olds motors, so the prices are more reasonable. F heads, or D heads, or 1968 forged 455 cranks, or any rare Olds part will obviously be expensive, as would a comparably rare Chevy or Ford part. Doh.

To get back to the original question (as YOU so accurately pointed out in a previous post) this was about someone with limited funds who probably wasn't going to run out and buy a crate motor anyway. I went on to say that NEW parts are less expensive for the SBC because the production rate is higher.

Before this gets too heated, I'm done with the responses (bored), moving on...

Good.
