i have an 81 monte with a 229 3.8 with a TH250,swapping the 3.8 to a gm perf. 350 crate with head work, thumpr cam, roller rockers, edelbrock performer rpm intake, 670 street avenger, and i just had a h.d. TH400 out of a 1 ton pick up rebuilt, roller sprag, red clutches, tci reverse manual valve body, and a 2,400 stall... i want to keep it on the column, and the main thing i want to kno before i rip out the original motor and trans and attempt to drop in the new motor and trans is what crossmember to get from jegs on their "jegster" line i heard the the 200 will fit the TH400? but i just have to move it back? and what about kick down cable issues and the brackets that hold them on the intake? and will my stock column linkage work with my th400? thanks guys any help would be grrrrreatly appreciated

The TH400 will be way more trans than you need for that motor, but I totally understand using what you have already available...

The crossmember from a 200-4R is the same as the TH400. I recommend getting an aftermarket dual-hump one so you don't have to dick around to run true dual exhaust.

You'll need to shorten the driveshaft 1/2" or so.

The TH400 does not have a kickdown cable like the THM200, TH350, or 200-4R, but rather an electronic switch that controls it that will mount above the gas pedal. Some other cars had them on the throttle linkage under the hood, but that set up looks like sh*t.

I got mine from a '72 Buick Riviera IIRC... And it will mount in the exact same spot above the pedal where the original a/c cutoff switch was, though those were 442/GN/SS specific so your car won't have it, but the provisions for it should be there...

Sweet thanks! I was thinking that a kick down cable shouldn't matter considering that its a manual valve body right? Buut one thing what about the steering column linkage? I don't want it on the floor...I'm going for the sleeper approach..
