Without a photo of your transmission, I can't answer your original question. If your 200-4R had 10 bolt holes (+2 for the alignment dowels) then you have a dual pattern. If it only has 6 bolt holes (+2 for dowels) then it is BOP only. I don't believe there is a Chevy only version. I have seen, with my own two eyes, dual pattern AND BOP only pattern. I am 100% sure. Hope this helps.

I know that mine is a dual pattern. I got it out of a 305 powered 1986 Grand Prix. As for the internal diferences, the valve body programming is different, but the biggest bonus to using a performance model of this trans is the revised upshift governor. It gives about 1500-2000 RPM more than the standard governor. I think the WOT on a standard TH2004R is 3,000 RPM, and 4500-5,000 on a performance model.

Can you rebuild a standard 2004R and upgrade it to performance spec?

You can upgrade a Th 200 4R in all kinds of ways. They have a strong following and most transmission parts makers make the requisite pieces to uprate it substantially. I still have not found a company that makes the governor for mine, but I think I could modify it myself if I had the spring and a template to see how to cut down the weights.

The first problem is, there was no such thing as a 1983 442. It was either a Hurst/Olds or a Cutlass. If it was a H/O, the trans is a 200-4R. If a Cutlass, it's a TH200.

Second, the 200-4R was most common with the unisex bellhousing. Early 200-4Rs came with BOP pattern only - I have pictures. I have heard of (but not seen) a Chevy-only version also.

Finally, my 86 Caprice wagon came factory with a 200-4R (behind a 307 Olds motor).

Why not put an Olds 350 or 403 in it? You will fool almost everyone, you even use the factory carb and intake, if you keep it mild. When you lift the hood, it won't be yet another chevy 350 powered car. Put a 350 chevy in with modern fast burn/vortec heads in it, if you have to. Otherwise why bother?

I wouldn't mind 151hp to the rear wheels...
