83 & 84 H/O wheels

Does anyone know what the coating is thats on these wheels? Is it just a clearcoat or some kind of chipguard?

No coatings, just chrome.

Yes , those wheels had some kind of clearcoat from the factory.It usually flakes off after awhile and the chrome is underneath.

Hmmm... Never heard of it. There's no coating on my SSIII's.

They were only on the 83-84 Hurst's, GM stopped putting it on when it started to yellow and flake.

I think it is just a clear lacquer. If so, it should come off with some lacquer thinner. I think I remember someone I used to know with an 83 H/O doing that to strip his.
