I'm considering tackling a carburator rebuild as i am pretty sure i have a vacuum leak at thecarb and i don't think by looking at it that it was rebuilt with the engine 30,000 miles prior to me buying it but i've never done this or even seen one off an engine ( only worked with TBI before) so i went to the local yard and figured i'd just buy one off a wrecker and rebuild it and then just swap out and rebuild the other and always have a spare, now i took oneoff a v6 like my engine and it had these 2 small squares attached or somewhat attached to the bottom and they fell off when i lifted it up and i'm wanting to know if these pieces come in the rebuild kit or do i need to find a way to reattach them if i buy this carb i found? i can't seem to find the correct exploded view of my 2 bbl carb online or on the forum and can't find a pic of the bottom of a 2 bbl either? does anyone have a pic or exploded diagram they could share... much tanks

http://www.guarenteedcarburetors.com will give ya the carb you need. I got mine off of here and it works great. Ive also rebuilt a few of the dualjet carbs and found out they are really sensitive so BE CAREFUL when you take it apart. id buy one off of a junk motor and use it as a practice carb before you tear into the one that works and find out later that its ruined.

Were the 2 small squares have like a honeycomb mesh in them, mounted under the carb? Sounds like the heater for the fuel mixture. Don't remeber exactly what its called but it is ment to warm the fuel mixture to help it burn better and prevent icing on the bottom of the carb.
They didn't work well and I swap them out for a normal base gasket for a Dualjet.

X2 but i always called it the heater block, and damn they get hot,

yes the honeycomb looking things are what fell off when i removed thecarb from the junker at the yard, i wasn't sure if they were replaceable or if they came in the rebuild kit or if i needed to make sure i got them if i but that carb? they were pretty burnt up on the junker so i would want to replace them before i ever put that on my car. "my86442" that link doesn't work it just keeps saying internet connection problems when i click it?

yea sorry bout that, i tryed it too after i posted. glad you figured it out. as far as the prices and warrenties, they're better than a parts house, and thats no sh*t. Oreillys wanted over $330 bucks for one and a $50 dollar core charge. I found this site through a buddy mechanic of mine about 2 years ago and have used em ever since. Like 81Regal said, you're better off just to get some gasket material and make a spacer plate in its place. Aftermarket spacer plates like Mr. Gasket, Jegs 1/2in, 1in or so and so to my knowledge dont exist for these 231 Buicks unless you call and have one made, unless, someone else knows if there is some already made. I know the earlier 3.8's like my 81 had the 1/4 inch spacer but the honeycomb heaters took the place of those in 84. I dont know if those are still around or not thru the parts house but id give it a shot.

OH and by the way, in the carb kits there is a carb spacer but thats for the butterfly plate at the base of the carb between the bowl and metering area and the butterfly plate. there is no heater plate that comes with the carb kit, i think its considered a seperate part.

so if i make a spacer then i don't need to keep the honeycomb heaters? I can just throw them out ? i think i'll probably take your advice and buy a fresh rebuilt one from that website, i'm sure rebuilding one would take me forever and since it always takes me 2 or 3 times to get anything right i think i'll be better of with letting the pros build it...lol, thanks for all your help
