Hello every one Im gonna let you all in on my project so you can help me star and finish it... I have had this car since I was 14 yrs old. I purchased it as a theft recovery missing the drivetrain and the front clip, Ipained it yellow enamel with satin black stripes, and a takeout sbc and i drove it thru highschool, but it has been parked since 03 and I am starting to work on it.
So far I Built a 388 stroker, forged internals trick flow twisted wedge heads, comp 4/7 swap cam 530 lift new mains line bored and honed, ported heads with all arp fasteners throughout rpm air gap intake and a th350 trans.
So there is the drivetrain. and now the body..............

So here are the afternoons accomplishments... chassis and body are now separate. Plans are to box the frame and knocks the rear for the tires and whatever other ideas you guys can give me

After owning for so many yrs and all the work do your self a favor... keep it. Since you are doing the chassis do the pro tour route. .
It will prolly be hard to get rid of when completed. I'm hoping to paint the body and get it back on the chassis before winter

when you are boxing the frame spot weld a few ties across the C channel or it will bow and you'll have a hard time lining up the body mounts, ask me how I know...:blam:

and make sure you leave an opening for the body bushing in the middle of the C channel so you can get the bushing in

Thanks for the input on the process, and the first hand experience, I have a frame rack that im going to mount the frame to while i do my work to it.
I really want to build a ladder frame along both sides also to stiffen it up. but we shall see...

Are you going to paint the whole body then remount to the frame or just the underside? Imo just do the underside then remount the body. Less chance of ruining a paint job. Also how will you refinish the underside of the body? I heard good things about using bed liner. If my shop wasnt being shared as my machine shop\bike repair\crap grave yard..... I would have split my body frm the frame. I am hopin soon to have a place to install a lift. And when I do I just mite buy a frame to restore 1st. That way I can make the resto easier. Maybe a bit quicker

I hear your concern about painting after its back on the chassis, and I am not settled on how i am gonna do it yet? i have to fix the floor-pans, because water came in around the door glass and rotted out the floor on both sides in the front, and that is seriously the only rust on the car, "which is awesome for a Michigan car!!!" Then i plan on sandblasting the whole underside and smoothing the firewall. Then i am using a tint-able undercoating/bedliner called, "raptorcoat" which will be the same color as the firewall, but this car is going to be a 2 tone paint job i'm doing so i think i'm gonna split the color across the firewall too just for a added detail, which would be hard to do with the car on the chassis.
