That is a beautiful car you have there. I have always liked the Cutlass and the Hurst is a treasure.

Keep it stock and just rebuild the motor/trans stock. Use your other car to fill the need for speed.

In the end, I think you'll be happy you did.

Very clean car. I would agree with everyone else and keep it stock. Then you could be one of the few with an original ride. Making it much more valuable. Just my opinion.

Don't touch it, stock rebuild and leave it at that.
It seams that everyone starts pulling these apart as soon as they get one.
A fully numbers matching Hurst is VERY RARE, many are boogered up by asshats.
It's a 307, not much you can do so don't try to go nuts with it. Headers aren't gonna do a whole lot, again it's a 307 not a fire breathing dragon.
Just rebuild it and the trans and it will be fast, my 83 Hurst Olds is pretty quick and it's all stock.
If you want to go fast then drive the other one, Oldsmobiles were marketed as Gentelman's cars, Cruisers at that...
i second that. i always got the 5.0 mustang comparison of "my 302 hauls *ss why doesnt that 307? they're like the same thing right?"... ford guys  ....remember, a car is only original once. unless youre bringing it back from the dead dont stray too far from stock. you could always do little things that people wouldnt notice unless pointed out such as mill the heads for marginally better compression, SMALL cam (maybe the vin 9 cam is enough, others would know better), slight work on the heads, cat back exhaust (looks you already have that covered) rebuild trans with a decent shift kit, roller tip rockers. you should have no real problem with keeping the computer with these few hop ups.

If you must this is about as far as you can go... and I wouldn't even bother, it's a whole lot of money for little advantage.

Too big of a cam will mess with your computer and at that stage you start defeating the purpose since you'll wind up having to ditch the computer, jumping the AC relay, replacing the distributor or modding the chip for the timing curve, getting a lockup switch... etc.
The VIN 9 Cam is a good cam as it stands, I wouldn't go too much larger.
Remember it's a 307, theres not a lot of cubes to be working with.

Easy way out if ti has over 100000 miles (not that I care ). Throw 307 in corner use any olds motor 350 up . Keep all parts easy swap back but enjoy now. I got a 18000 mile original and a 350 is starting to look good . Just keep all parts .

We have a 69 z 302 all number matching we put back together and the motor was not in car since 70 . Was big block still number matching .

Me likes! if you wanna go through with swapping motors. If not, I agree with what others are saying: Keep it running good and keep the 307.

my $0.02.

Great looking car! keep it stock please. Did the previous owner paint the car? im asking cuz it doesnt look like the right shade of silver.

I was thinking the EXACT same thing. It looks almost more of a gray instead of silver. The color just looks too dark, but it could be the lighting, etc.

I wish he'd just sell me the car so he wouldn't have to worry about it. I have a mint '83, and want a real nice factory '84 to keep it company.

the previous owner said that they had it touched up and recleared but i do body work and could tell that it has had a repaint(little overspray here and there).im gonna paint it back the original color when they get thru building the motor.my mechanic says that he tried to order a mild cam but says that the cams that he looked at can not be installed cause of the computer.do any of you guys know of one that will?

true enough 88hurstolds...regardless of it being the wrong shade its still a killer car
