Got a 86 cutlas i want to swap the 307 for olds 350 i am currently looking for one. not sure if i should upgrade the 200r4 or not. a fresh rebuilt one came with the car. i also want to go with a larger gear and limited slip. is there any cars out there that come stock with limited slip that will fit in my housing? Not sure if all cutlas's came with the 8.8? not sure if a camaro or something like that had the same lsd. could i use after market intake and carb or would that be to much trouble with the ecu. any help would be great. thanks.

8.8? No Gbody Cutlass came with the 8.8. The 7.5 was stock for the base models and the 8.5 came in the 442 and Hurst/Olds. Is the 200-4R a stock rebuild or a performance rebuild? I would think a good rebuilt 200-4R with a good shift kit could hold up against a mild Olds 350 for awhile depending on how bad you beat it. If you intend on removing all of the smog equiptment then there is really no reason to keep the computer. A mild Olds 350 backed by a 200-4R and 3.73-3.90 gears sounds like alot of fun 😀

As 83Montess said, a good rebuilt 200-4r would be fine behind an Olds 350. 3.42 or 3.73 would be my choice in gears. Posi is hit or miss in finding it in a G-body, it was an option on all of them. You could eliminate the computer, but you can keep it if you want or need to. They have been used successfully on Olds 350s and 403s.

The guy who sold that transmission to you lied. That code transmission is from a full size car with a 307 Olds & 2.93 rear gears.

Everyone swears by the CK shift kit for the 2004r. The new big Trans Go kit with servo is supposed to be improved. I am going with the CK kit and their billet servo. It is $100 more but supposedly worth it. Any year 350 will be a big improvement. Don't over look the 403 either, also a direct swap. As for gears, get 3.42 at least, I should have went 3.73. If you plan on big burn outs, the spider gears WILL explode. The 7 5/8 posi has bigger spider gears but needs 28 spline axles, yours are 26 spline. A 2000 stall convertor might help too, stock is 1500-1800 rpm.

Look for a gbody with a axle tag code of gt4. That is a 3.73. 83-84 monte ss came with a 3.42 posi and 85-88 came with a 3.73 posi but had a 7.5'' ring gear. not positive on the years but i know buick grand nationals came with a 3.37 posi also and they had an 8.5 ring gear, I think its 84-88 but not 100% positive. Will check my parts interchange and let you know. ideal street rear end in my opinion, for what its worth. I also know some grand prix's came with a 3.73 posi also which i have my parts guy looking for in the salvage yard i run. I will let you know what i find out about grand prix rear ends as they are easier to come by.

The Monte rear is good. It is the only 7 5/8" G body rear and can be bought for a decent price.
