I have a 87 Cutlass salon that my brother gave me . Don't know too much about the ccc system on this car. Anyways the didn't run when he gave it too me it had a cracked intake manifold. I replaced it with a Edelbrock from another 307 I removed the distributor put the engine @ tdc pointed the rotor at #1 cylinder put the wires in counter clockwise order and I can't get it to start it gets spark at the cap and I put gas in the carb and it just turns over and sometimes backfires just don't know why it's not starting ? I have read alot of things about the ccc but I don't know if the carb has anything to do with the distributor electronically?

It could be a big vacuum leak, the ports on your 7A heads are tiny but it is probably out of time. Double check tdc, try turning the distributor towards the firewall, it may catch and fire.

So I have tryed to put #1were #6 was to see if I could get it to fire up still nothing I even checked tdc it landed on 0. Do I have to advance it too 5 or 10 degrees? I also found a ground not connected I connected it back to the intake manifold still no change next thing I'm going to do is do a compression check. Also I found out that the motor was almost locked up before I started working on it it turns freely with starter but I'm just wondering if there is any pitting on the cylinder walls. Also I'm surprised the plugs aren't flooded I put some gas down the carb to start and no wet plug? Any help is greatly appreciated I have another engine I'm going to put in it if I can't get this one to fire

you need to put the plug wire where they belong, pull the distributor out and turn the rotor 180 and install the distributor.

Ok so let me make sure I get it right I pull the distributor out turn it 180 from where I have it? Then do I keep the wires start at 1 pointing to the number one cylinder where I originally had it or do I put the same place where I put the distributor 180 out sorry if I sound not so smart I just want to make sure I get it right. And thanks for the advice

If you originally set the rotor pointing at #1 when you had #1 piston at TDC then you can just turn the rotor 180 when you remove the distributor and do not worry about where it is pointing. Put the wires in the same place you originally had them. See if you can fire it up, easier with a helper to start the car while you slowing move the distributor to get ti started. If it won't start then I would suggest to start over by finding the #1 cylinder on the compression stroke at TDC. You can find the compression stroke by removing the #1 spark plug and sticking a finger in the hole. You will feel the air pushing on your finger during the compression stroke. Do not think you are not sounding smart, smart peole ask questions and that is how you learn
