hey guys, when i bought my cutlass we had to boost it, the radio was on & turned all the way up, so i dove in the car and just turned it down all the way, i now have an alternater and battery in the car and itll crank, i pulled out the stock sterio and started wireing in an aftermarket deck, have all the speakers wired up, but can't seem to find an active power and ground, i tracked down a wireing diagram and orange is power and it dosnt say for ground, but im assuming it's either black or brown, the extra wires i have are 2 orange, 1 black, 2 extra grey wires, and 1 other for ign, but since i put in the alternator and battery i havent been able to get the stock sterio on, i assumed that the radio was pooched , i've checked fuses and to see if the car gets power, it gets power and fuses are fine, so i guess i have 2 questions, on my deck i have a yellow and a black for power and ground, which orange is going to be a power source, and also what colour should i ground it to, or should i ground it to the dash chassis? i've messed around with each connection and tried to combonate the cords differently each time unhooking the batt & rewireing, hooking batt up & test, but it dosnt seem to be getting any power at all.

Your aftermarket radio should have two main power inputs; yellow and red. One is constant power (memory) and the other is key-on power. The orange wire in your car is constant. As far as ground, it should be black. You need to get yourself a multi-meter or at minimum a test light to check power and such. I would not play the guessing game at it.

A test light is a must

I had a problem like that over the winter with mine. Check all of your wires for shorts. Only need 3 wires for power black (ground) yellow (switched) and orange (constant). Hook up aftermaket according. Colors should be black-black, yellow-yellow, orange-red. Test light is a big help as mentioned. Everything should hookup if nothing was ripped out before hand. As was the case after I bought my car. Hope this helps.

On alot of newer Head Units you need to have the Antenna Plugged in for the unit to turn on.. Now you also have a fuse in your new unit or you may have a box on a wire with a fuse in it.. I cant remember how i had to set up my 85 LS but I'm almost positive i needed a separate Constant power wire because the factory stereo didn't have a constant power and some Head Units will not work unless you have Both Switched and Constant power supplied and a good Ground and the antenna plugged in..

I thought the Red was Constant the Yellow was Switched and Orange was your dimmer and that doesn't matter and your Black is ground the The Red and Yellow might be backwards but check it out

Oh ya I spaced. Red not orange... its orange in my other ride lol. And to the op . Almost anything u deal with, with wiring, if its correct... black is ground.

okay so my yellow goes to yellow, black to black, and red to orange? and when i turn the key i should get some power at the deck right? and where would i get a mounting kit for one of these?

okay so i hooked it all up, i forgot about my power antenna thing for an amp, didnt hook it up, it's blue, where should i hook it to, i have 2 grey wires left, and the radio won't hold any presets or anything, so im assuming i don't have the ign or memory hooked up properly any input? ill chime back in with what colours i have left & sh*t
