i just installed an lt1 and 4l60e in to an 88 monte using v8 2292 motor mounts with the stock lt1 clamshells on the block.the problem is the motor is crooked, its pointing to the pass side.and the tailshaft is way off center.has anybody had this problem?i thought the lt1 motor brackets were staggered from left to right.i'm using the holes in the frame all the way forward.if i move the pass motor mount back would it line up with the next set holes in the frame?

any info would help

looks like the right motor mount is back farther than the left side.took out the mount to frame bolts and straigtened everything out.the trans even bolts up using the 200r4 crossmember and trans mount.
however i will have to drill new holes or weld the right side motor mount to the frame.
has anybody else had this problem and is there another way?

i just finished installing the motor and the holes do line up.the pass motor mount needs to be moved back 1 set of holes on the frame.the pass motor mount bracket on the lt1 is offset.farther back on the pass.side.

Had the same problem when i first installed my LT1 in my GN. Here is how to solve the problem. Find yourself another drivers side clam shell mount. You will notice on the passenger side, the LT1 clam shell is set further back than the drivers side. Remove the rear ac brackets, you will then be able to bolt on the drivers side clam shell on the passenger side, putting it in the correct position, the holes to do it are already in the block. Motor will now sit straight, and you still have room for the ac pump if you want to keep it, it just won't have the rear brackets, hasn't been a problem on mine.

i already have it in there with the way i described.but that is also a good way to.thanks for the info.
if you have done this swap what radiator did you use and does it have oil cooler lines?also what throttle cable did you use?and how did you hook up the fuel lines from the rail [quick disconnect to threaded ],i saw a conversion kit but dont remember where.
thanks for any info

I am using a 95 trans am radiator with the duel fan system, fits a little tight around the steering box, computer turns the fans on and off. I had a donor car when i did my swap, i used the throttle cable from my 96 SS donor car, works perfect. I also kept the fuel lines from the donor car that attach to the fuel rail, went to napa, they had repair ends for the plastic lines, just attached regular rubber fuel lines from my steel lines to the plastic lines. The pic shows my set up, i just used my orginal radiator top plate. This winter i am going to tear the car down, and rework some of the things i did, and get rid of some of the excess wiring i don't need.

doing a smilar conversion in my cutlass......

what brand and p/n of spark plug wires did you use ? are they all 90 deg boots at the spark plugs ? (otherwise the straight boots touch the headers )

did you convert your engine harness yourself ? being old school , i have a hard time with this ....and not enough budget to throw $$$$$$ to painless wiring ....and being pride id like to acomplish this myself

Hi Doug ,

being very close to 60 , but not there yet , id like to show my pride ...still !

you have quite a nice car ( avatar)..... for a mature man !

Dan ,

Dan,

I don't think my wife would say that I'm mature, I think she'd say that I'm a kid in an oldman's body! That's okay because then I'm free to think about things like the LT1 swap in this thread.

Doug
