i loaned my 95 skylark with a 3100 engine and he ran it low on oil . the engine shut down and after a half hour he started it back up and drove it another twenty miles home with the rod knocking and didn't tell me for a month and then only because a asked about it. he told me well you didn't give me any oil and i didn't know what that light meant so i kept on driving doh i had it towed to my house and started it just long enough to confirm the problem. is it possible to put a 3.8 liter in place of the 3100? its a nice car no dents no bad paint. i would like to keep the car as it is really comfortable. and if i fix the bottom end of the 3100 i might as well fix the whole thing the only other problem is it is an obd 1.5 they only made them for a year or two just to tick people off.

Any swap is possible. I'd just slap another 3.1 in if you really love it. Honestly, you're probably time and money ahead to just buy another car.

A 3.4 might be a doable swap, but you really don't gain a bunch over the 3.1

You could stuff a 5.3 and 4T60 out of a Monte SS in there, but that would be an extensive swap to say the least.

4.8/4L60T out of a newer Impala!

I think those are all Aluminum 5.3L's. Went in GP GXP's, too.

I was looking for AL Block 4.8's and I don't think they ever made any.

It is the LS4

You can find them in the Picknpulls for picknpull prices. If somebody made a cheap RWD swap kit for them, say using 4th Gen Camaro V6 Transmissions, it would be cool.

Build a low Torque/high RPM one (7K RPM HP peak, 320lb ft of max torque @ 4,000) with a big cam and the trans would live and it would be lots of fun for cheap and people would hear you coming.
