I just recently bought a vortech 350. im sure a few of you guys have done the swap. i have all the wire harness for the motor. how difficult is this swap? are there a lot of mods i would have to do for it to work? the motor is also fuel injected. Also, i want to beef it up a lil. what size cam could i get and would i be able to progam the motor? Any feedback would be helpful, thanks

By all the wire harness do you mean the computer and all the sensors as well or just the wiring? It's about as easy as any other foreign motor swap need to have fabrication skill, wiring skills, and not be afraid to do a little massaging where needed. As for programming the motor for a little more get up and go what year Vortech is it and what vehicle did it come out of? That's your two main set backs on "programming" the computer. Most dyno shops can tune the computer to do just about anything but the later model you get the tougher it is for them to really tune it in. I will say I have never done this swap before but I do work at a GM dealership and deal quite a bit with the vortechs and 90% of the time you can find a company re-popping wiring harnesses and such to work with the vortech motors. I'm assuming the engine came from a late model chevy/gmc pickup, tahoe, suburban. In that case if you wanna make good power let me know we just got done rebuilding the dealership's owners 98 tahoe vortech out to a 383 and its set to run perfect with the stock tune in the computer and no sensor changing all for around $3200 should put down about 375hp/415tq which makes his tahoe blow the tires apart so Im sure it would be fun in a Monte. Sorry i got long winded any other help you need would be more than happy to help any way I can

Why would you want all the computer stuff in an 87ss?? You can buy a Performer manifold for your q-jet carb, bolt on your carb, and be done! That's what I did.
