I can get a good deal on one. Was wondering exactly how much wider are they and if anyone has photos with their wheels setup. I have 15x8 3.5" bs

The only A-body 8.5 rear worth putting in our cars is the one year only 1972 rear. If you are referring to the 73 and newer 8.5 rears I've never heard of anyone getting one bolted into our cars. The upper ears are at different angles than a g-body rear or the 64-72 a-body rears. IMHO it's not worth it even for free.

So your saying its not worth putting a 8.5 in over the wimpy 7.5. Don't feel like doing the 9" and changing everything. And 8.5 from a gn is rare to find

I have a 67 A body rear in my GP. It's an 8.2" but the same width as the 8.5". The 64 to 67 A body rears are 2.5" wider than the G body rear. The 68 to 72 are 4.5" wider than than the G body rear. The conversion upper work with either version of the A body rear. The G body lowers will fit the 68 to 72 version. For the lowers on the 64 to 67 you'll need a spherical joint on the axle side. I am using UMI conversion uppers and UMI built me a modified lower with a Roto Joint on the axle end. You will not be able to use the stock rear sway bar with the 64 to 72 version. I put in a rear sway bar from a F body GTA that takes a little modification to make it fit. I am running 17 x 8 rims with 4' backspace and 255-50-17 tires. I had to roll the back fender lip to stop the tires from rubbing. JBrue has the 8.5" from the 68 to 72 version and he helped me out when I was putting my 8.2 in. I'm sure he'd give you some info if you are putting in that version.

If it's the 73 and newer 8.5, no it's not worth the effort as there are no conversion upper or lower arms to install them in our cars. You didn't say what year rear you have. That would help greatly in giving you the right information. If you do indeed have the 72 8.5 then yes it would be worth it as there are conversion uppers to mount them in our cars. Of course you would need wheels with almost 6" of back spacing to use the rear unless you have it narrowed.
