I have not been able to find any solid information regarding A Body brakes on a G Body, but I would to go with A body drum brakes in the back just to get the bolt-in style wheel cylinders. I dont see a real need to upgrade to disc brakes as my previous monte I had with stock replacement and braided stainless hoses it had great braking capabilities. Any info on what cars I could use rear drum brakes off of would be very helpful and appreciated just to go to the bolt in style wheel cylinders. Thank you in advance I appreciate any information.

I have the 67 A body rear with A body drum brakes on my GP. The parking brake, drum and I think the springs are the same. The shoes and wheel cylinder are different. If you are thinking of using the A body backing plate that has 4 bolts unlike the G body backing plate

You can always do wheel cylinder brackets. It's what I did to get rid of the rear clip. http://www.summitracing.com/parts/agb-gmb25851

Thanks a lot for your input guys, it was very helpful and i really do appreciate it. I think I am gonna use those brackets that V8 Rumble is using , thats a very good idea and would do exactly what I am looking to do to get rid of the springs holding the wheel cylinders in place. I was just gonna go with A Body Backing plates and all the shoes and hardware but thank you Pontiacgp for letting me know they wont work. Thanks again everyone!

The LS1 Camaro brake conversion basically goes back to the 4-bolt backing plate pattern. The axle flange has enough material that you can drill the legacy four-hole pattern, no problem. The lower two holes are already piloted for you. Less work, however, to add the wheel cylinder clamps shown in V8Rumble's post.

Now what a body rear will bolt in a g body? I know they make control arms to make the conversion and get the angles correct but what a body rear will go in and what modifications would have to be made?

Your G-body axle is about 58" flange-to-flange. I think the 64-67 fits best by width. Others should weigh in. UMI makes control arms to correct the mismatch in the axle mounts.

the A body 64 to 67 is 2.5" wider than a G body rear. Even though the A body rear end is wider the brackets on the rear end for the lower control arms are closer to the center of the rear end than the brackets for the lower control arms on the G body rear. UMI modified their lower control arms for me and added a roto joint on the rear end side to compensate for the angle with the misalignment of the brackets on the rear end. Keep in mind the G body stock rear sway bar will not fit with this rear end. I used an F body rear sway bar with a small modification to the bar and the OEM mounting hardware and 3" U bolts.

The A body 68 to 72 is 4.5" wider than the G body rear. The brackets on the rear end are virtually in the same location as the brackets on the G body rear so the stock lowers will fit. JBrue has a 68-72 A body 12 bolt in his Monte Carlo

Both rear ends will fit with the UMI upper conversion arms. The rear drum and E brake cable connection is the same as what's on the G body. The shoes and wheel cylinder are different. The spring perch sits more forward than the spring perch on the G body rear but I didn't move the spring perch on my rear end and with short springs it didn't affect anything.

Thanks a lot Pontiacgp you definitely know a lot for sure and im thankful for you, and the other members for sharing their knowledge and experience it is a huge help. Thank you everyone for all the help and sharing what youve learned. I think I wanna go the 12 bolt route so I can still have a strong starting point without going to the ford 9" although thats the best way to go in a lot of cases I think the 12 bolt will be more then adequate and dependable for what im building. I dont plan on going anymore then a max of 600 hp on my next build. Thanks again everyone!!

JBrue helped me out immensely when I was installing my A body rear. If you have any questions on the 12 bolt JBrue is always helpful
