Good morning Guys,

I was just wondering what the A/C Diode is for and if it is absolutely required. I recently replaced my a/c components, however my diode is missing. What will happen if I run the a/c without it?

Thank you

A clamping diode to prevent voltage spikes when the clutch suddenly disengages. This is important because these powerful spikes can damage relay contacts and the control device, such as the PCM, BCM or ATC module.
New compressor clutch connectors with a Zener diode already installed are available at almost any auto parts store, You just have to splice two wires.
It can mess with other things on your car also.
My El Camino developed a nasty pop in the speakers every time my compressor cycled. I discovered the diode had failed and was allowing voltage spikes to feed back through the cars whole electrical system.
