After posting a request for crossmember dimensions and getting nothing, I built one today, but, before I cut it again to build in the exhaust passages someone please help me! I centered the output shaft in the chassis, I assume thats right? and taking measurements from a stock th200 xmember to calculate height of the mount, when everything is bolted tight the centerline of the output shaft is slightly higher than the top of the frame rails? I would be more sure of myself if the body were on the chassis. I just swapped in a 454 and 700r4 in place of a 305 and th200,in an elCamino, in case any of those facts matter? Really, anyone who has a body off chassis with the engine and trans still in who could measure the height of the output shaft,in relation to the frame rails, I would REALLY appreciate it. I dont want to keep moving along with the next steps to find out later (like when the body goes back on) i really screwed up.Thanks

I really wish I could help, but I can only tell you how my Dad and I used a 1966-67 Chevelle crossmember.

We did use a frame out of the car to measure the width. We had to cut the ends off a little on the 66' crossmember and then redrill , I think the drivers side frame, for bolt holes. It's been soo long it's hard to remember.

It was the cheapest and come to find out,a little more common practice around the racetrack for a strong non-after market crossmember than we had realized
My Dad picked it up for $10.00 was another cool thing about it 8)

Can you not just go by the old crossmember for determining your deminsions ?

Yes and no. I used the old crossmember to establish the height of the mount pad relative to the frame. The old crossmember mounts in a different set of holes and is for a different trans,so it is a estimate at best. I was really hoping someone would be able to confirm my measurements so I won't get a surprise when I set the body back on.
