My 78 El Camino was born with the same LM 350 with a Quadrajet carb and no air pump.

That's good to know, thanks for chiming in. 🙂

Ben,
I wonder if the car is equipped with a corporate fire or police package, and intended for that use. It sounds like an interesting car. Could it be a Canadian car?
I've never seen a 350 equipped wagon before. However, I've seen factory equipped 350 El Caminos. The only other A-G-body cars that were 350 equipped were police cars or fire dept.

I'm very interested in further information you discover about this car.

The VIN code of L definitely indicates a Chevy 350 for that year. I'm also given to understand that the 350-in-a-G-body was only factory offered in wagons... I *believe*

Likely the AC is on the driver's side as well - that seemed to be typical of Chevy V8s as I recall.

EDIT: In the link to nastyz28.com, those duration specs HAVE to be a typo! 310 duration intake, 320 exhaust??? Egad!

The speedo is in mph. The vin indicates it was built in Texas. I plan on trying to find the build sheet, wherever it may be. The build sheet for my 73 Nova stated what dealership the car was shipped to, maybe the g-body one does too. The car is entirely rust free, so I suspect it's spent most/ all of it's time not far from St George, (south western) Utah where I am.

So far I've noticed it has the front triagulation braces under the frame and it has two short braces that go from the top of the rad support to the fenders. Big front sway bar, no rear bar. It has the normal power steering box as opposed to the light weight small box that my 79 came with. It also has air shocks out back but I suspect that was not factory or dealer installed.

A/C is on the driver's side, the larger compressor type. My 79 Cutlass wagon w/ 305 Chevy had the smaller style compressor also on the pass side.

The single exhaust dual outlet muffler was(I believe) a standard item on an Olds diesel wagon. I had one on my car years back when I had my stock 305 in the car.

I just checked an old Chiltons ( I know, I know :blam: ) but it said, yes, the Chevy 350 was available in a '78 Cutlass and the 5th digit of the vin would be an "L". I don't see why a wagon wouldn't get one. Oh, and it could also have had an Olds 260, Chevy 305, Buick 350, Olds 350, Olds Diesel, and Olds 403.

Is this part of the code stamped on the block? Or on the build sheet? Or...?

Those should be the suffix codes that are on the pad behind the alternator.
