Hello to all
Ill introduce myself:
Name is John, i'am married and have 1 son, living in Hoofddorp, Netherlands, yes the country in Europe.
Proud to say that i am the owner of the only 1980 Cevrolet Monte Carlo overhere there is not another 1980 in the netherlands present at this time.Car is running on LPG only and is running real strong and good, there is no petroltank anymore and even the original 4BBL rochester has been removed.
Its by far not original because of the part problem overhere.

Ill let the pictures speak:

Welcome! Can you post more pictures of the engine and what you had to do for the LPG conversion?

Welcome aboard, John!

Nice to see more members checking in from across the pond. Where do you manage to get parts from? I understand that some European countries have parts more available than others.

Collector,
John, welcome to the site! More pictures and information about the LPG system. Is the transmission stock? What rear end gear ratio are you running? How far can your car go on a full tank of LPG? Thanks!

Doug

@80CutlassCalais will make pictures and a how to on the LPG thing very soon okay !

Parts have to come from rockauto.com and summit etc. nothing in the Netherlands For the MC tho
Gaskets and stuff is no problem, engine wise no problem to get parts (although at ridiculous prices)
But Head and taillights, doors, fenders, dash pieces, that sort of stuff is almost impossible to get by.
Ebay is a source but i cant believe that people asking postage fees that are out of this world, and most of them wont ship outside to Europe.
Little example:
Set of valve cover gaskets for my 305 cui v8 that will cost me $4,34 and shipping will be (drum roll please) $28,41 and that has to be a BIG A.S stamp to put onto the envelope isn't it ??

So its struggling to get parts for the MC and keeping it running, but hey, every morning and afternoon driving it to work en from work puts a smile on my face that has to be chiseled off.

Will do on the LPG system very soon

Trans is a th200 rear end ratio i don't know its the stock rear axle GM 7.25" 10 bolt c-clip
Ignition has to be replaced with a new one the vacuum advance is shot so mileage isn't accurate right now.
Full tank of LPG is abt 65 liters or 17,17 gallon and thus far it gets me about 350 km far or 218 miles, i know its ridiculous how low mileage i get but thats mostly ignition problem.
Looking to get a good ignition set so i can fine tune the engine a bit further, after all the car is 31 years old and has the original ignition still in it.

All in all, it sounds like a challenge to keep an old American car on the road there. I'll bet it does attract attention when you drive it around. 8) ..especially with the color that it is.

It sounds like you're having fun with it. That's what it's all about. I'll bet that it does look displaced among the usual European jellybeans. They certainly see and hear you coming, that's for sure..

Hope the site helps you with any questions and advice pertaining to keeping your Monte Carlo on the road. Good luck!
