Accessing front speakers on a GP

If you're going through the trouble of removing your dash, then I would recommend scrapping the center speaker and installing two tweeters (or regular speakers) in each front corner of the dash. There's plenty of room underneath and the dash is solid enough to support the weight. Just a thought...

I find with replacing the corner 3.5 spkrs, you have to make sure the center cones have enough clearance to the dash. Some of them protrude a bit higher than others.

Thanks! You're right regarding clearance, but if the OP removes his dash, then it's a no-brainer. Taking the time to make this mod will definitely pay off in the long run.

Ive found when pulling the dash/bezel it is easiest to loosen the speedo cable bracket mounted below the master cylinder. You are then able to push the cable inwards to give you clearance to unhook the clip on the speedo housing.

Pulling the dash the 1st time is a pain, but after the first time it's a breeze. A couple of hours is all it takes in and out.

We put a Gran Prix dash in the Cutlass and then made a custom gauge, radio, switch panel. Putting the corner speakers in with the dash installed is impossible IMHO.

Man, I almost bought a 85 Grandprix years ago. After reading this, glad I didn't. I have blown a few of those speakers. That is totally insane on so many levels. I can change the front 3.5" on my 88 Cutlass in 5 minutes!
