I havent noticed any body ever bring that up here. I have a 6.o for my malibu. Is there anyway to tell if it has the active fuel management without getting into engine? I was planning to try to use the trick where you spin the cam around and try to swap out the cam, (undecided on which one yet) Should i be worried if its an original AFM engine and swap the lifters too.?

Yeah, which 6.0L is it? What did it come out of?

It's an ly6. It came out of an express van. Or a ups ups truck. I not sure which. If it came out of one of the smaller ups truck I'm sure it doesn't have it but if it came from a van I don't know? I don't know if it matters

If you decide to ditch the VVT keep everything and sell it as a package.

Thats some good info Thanks guys. I am going to take the vvt out of it as I dont have the ecu for it and dont need to complicate things any further than they are already. didnt realize it was desirable. If anybody has a non vvt set up and would like to trade parts Ill gladly remove the cam, sprocket, timming cover and whatever else you in trade for some of what I need to eliminate it. That would cut some of my costs for swap.

Dude, keep the VVT. The weakness of an LS engine with a performance cam is low end torque and VVT corrects this while improving overall power under the curve. Fuel economy is also better. All you need is an E38 or newer ECM to operate it. I put a Texas Speed VVT cam kit in my 6.2 easy peasy and the HP/TQ curve is nice and flat. Don't let it scare you.

The active fuel management on the other hand is worthless from a performance standpoint. Your valley cover will look like the one shown below on the right if you have it. AFM style lifters are weak and should be replaced along with an LS3 valley cover (shown on left below ) with o rings to seal off the AFM ports in the bosses.

I dont know if ill keep the vvti. Im not sure if im going to efi or carb it either. Im kind of just looking for deals and playing it by ear based on what comes my way, within reason anyway. Thanks though atleast I know not to throw it away. Ill sell it or hang on to it incase I decide to reinstall it in the future.
btw, Anubis you dont happen to still have anything I could use like the non vvt timing cover and cam gear etc, etc
