Hey all i know it's usally an easy task but i must be rusty.
When i first got my monte it has the puff of smoke when you start it.
So i did the o rings and boots to correct the problem worked like a charm my car has 49k miles on it.
Well that said i must have adjusted the rockers three times before closing it up.
Now i have alittle ticking on each side that pisses me off. sounds like it has 149 now?
i guess i have to do it one last time.
here is how i adjusted them lossened untill ticking which was about a 1/4 turn then tightened a quarter back is tht enough? or should i go a half turn which i normally do not litk to do because the motor starts to run crappy.
I know the lifter should pump back up but i was doing it kinda quick beacuse i have only tinfoil over the rockers to prevent a mess and after a few minutes of a good flow it leaks down the side of the block making a mess.
What to do.
here are some picks

I normally dont adjust valve while running. The way I adjust valves is I turn the engine over doing one cylinder at a time and bring it up onto top dead center. If you watch the intake valve close then usually an additional 90 degrees is top dead center. Then I bring each rocker down to zero lash. By spinning the pushrod as soon as it stops thats zero lash. I then go 1/2-1 turn on the adjusting nut. Do one cylinder at a time and you should be good.
