UMI adjustable transmission crossmember

This is one of those subjects people go back and forth over, Some people don't like the weight of the g force style and some people love it because adds rigidity.people used to swear by those iceman lightweight tubular versions back in the day and others swore it was too flimsy. I'm a fan of aftermarket crossmembers because running an exhaust with a stocker is not much fun.

The transmission mount needs only enough strength in the crossmember to hold it in a 'location'. Using the crossmember as a frame strengthener though is not a bad idea either.

I have to buy a new crossmember anyway for the 200r4 swap, and it'd be nice if I could get some dough back out of my th350 g force unit. I do wish it was steel though.
Don't let the material determine what to buy. See above. It only needs to hold the trans where it's supposed to be.

My homemade unit from 1 1/2" square tubing with two pieces of 1 1/2" angle works just fine in terms of strength (1/8" thick for both). Or at least I think it does - it's been in there 4 years without any breakage.

It would be great if the UMI rep would hop on this thread and throw in their two cents.

look at it this way,the tri five's didn't even have a crossmember to hang the transmission's in place.it relied on the motor mounts.that's pretty wild.that light(er)one that summit sells doesn't look to bad,it's bigger than the stocker and not as bulky as the gforce models.I'm sure it's only a matter of time before Ramey Womer with UMI Performance or UMI Sales see this will chime in to promote this new product.

Clearly adding rigidity to the frame is why GForce builds their unit so strong. And the reason I have them in 2 of my cars.
