Im getting ready to buy a shifter for my 81 Malibu. Im using a Monte console. Thinking about a B+M Quicksilver. I already have the console brackets but theyre not welded in. I bought a new shifter plate or bezel and have an older one that I can cut up as a mockup. What else has to be done to use this shifter ?

The front bracket in actually for the factory shifter then the console is bolted to the shifter. Since you are going with a aftermarket shifter you're gonna have to make your own mount for the front of the console. I'm gonna have to do the same when I do my Monte console and B&M Megashifter install.
I bought a front mounting bracket from Mikes Montes thats made by Custom Monte SS parts. Its made to be used when you dont use the original shifter.
Cool, I might take a look at that. I just got the brackets from a donor. Only been looking at Dixie Monte depot.mikester said:
