I was wondering if anyone has ever had one installed in their car. The pop-up type. I can get one done for about $350. I just don't know how reliable they are, but if I can get all the work warrantied, is this worth it?

I had one on my ,79 MOnte Carlo that I had years ago..........I think there was a thread a while back on this subject, here or another site...........BUt the general census was not to do it as the roof's aren't a true square and it would have problems..........But they look pretty damn cool... Khan 0165 has a sunroof on his grand prix and it looks pretty sweet as well...I'm sure he'll pipe in here soon and fill ya in.... and if not, shoot him a PM 8)

not that i have any experience with sunroofs in gbodies but from what i have learned working at a gm dealer is that sunroofs are cool but never worth the trouble they can be and never worth the risk of leaking and water damage. chances are if you get one and they do a good job you would be fine but if they dont do a good job there you are with a square hole in your roof

I'd make sure, if you get one installed, that they re-inforce the roof.... go out and gently push down on your roof and see how flimsy it actually is, then think of that added weight if it's not re-inforced.... food for thought.

"personally" i hate those pop up ones, i think they look tacky but thats me. most have a big bulky trim ring and they remind me of the 80s, yes i know our cars are from the 80s lol. i installed a large asc power moonroof in my regal and shaved the trim ring so it looks stock. allot of work but worth it as fas as keeping it look clean. it looks stock but it vents up like that pop up sunroof and no factory roof did that, it also slides back like factory.

DON'T DO IT !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

All it does is ruin the car in every possible way.

I have one on my wagon, installed by the PO. He did a good job on the install. It's a standard after-market pop-up one, and in general, I agree with the people who say don't do it, because it probably will hurt the value of your car. How it looks is a personal opinion - sometimes I like it and other times I think it looks crappy.

On the other hand, I don't have any problems because of a weak roof, and no leaks. Plus it lets an astonsishing amount of heat out that would normally stay inside and make the car miserable in the summertime - very nice to have here in Phoenix. So while I probably wouldn't cut into a perfectly good roof to install one, I use it all the time.

yep, I've got one.

I think it looks cool. It was done by the previous owner, and they seem to have done a good job. It seems to be reinforced, and it fits well.
don't really have any specific pictures of it, but here's a couple shot

That being said... I would not recommend it. Like others said, it's not worth the trouble. Mine is definitly starting to show it's age, it leaks under heavy rain, specially if you're driving and it sloshes side to side.

And because they are square and flat, no matter how well they are installed, overtime gaps will appear under the trim, and start to rott.

Cool, thanks for the feedback guys. I think I'm gonna stay away! lol
