I'd rather blame the Democrats as they tend to ruin the country whenever they get power. What we really need is some reeducation centers to mold these lazy, unproductive leeches on the economy into productive citizens to get them off welfare and out of unions!

Didn't Republicans have control of the government for 6 years straight pretty recently and not reform welfare to your satisfaction?

Reagan cut taxes and increased spending (on defense)...you're still paying the interest on that debt. Bush cut taxes (mostly for the rich) and has set a record for increasing the national debt and we haven't even added in the latest borrowings to fix the financial mess. Now the good part....Clinton ended his term with a SURPLUS, reducing debt! Any questions, students?

All this talk from McCain on making tax cuts (for the rich) permanent. Obama will increase taxes if you make over $250,000 and leave the middle class alone. Question: WHEN ARE WE GOING TO PAY DOWN THE DEBT? If we don't do it, China will stop loaning us money and the jig will be up.

Hot off the presses...............

Nebraska Republican Sen. Chuck Hagel said his party's vice presidential nominee, Sarah Palin, lacks foreign policy experience and called it a "stretch" to say she's qualified to be president.
"I think it's a stretch to, in any way, to say that she's got the experience to be president of the United States," Hagel said.

Questions?

Hot off the presses: Sarah Palin is more experienced in government and has a longer record of accomplishment than Barak Obama. 2 Years as governor of Alaska vs...143 days in the Senate? What major legislation did he propose and get passed? He has no record of ever accomplishing ANYTHING in government.

BTW, cutting taxes on the highest income earners always increases government revenues because they spend more. That spending pays people lower down the economic ladder and grows the economy. Those people in turn pay taxes on that money from the top, and increase tax revenues. Cutting taxes on the poor does them little benefit as it does not foster economic growth and give them an opportunity to work their way out of poverty.

Continually throwing money at the poor and setting up the system so that if they try to improve themselves by working they make their lives worse does nothing but enslave them as a democratic voting base. The Democrats use a fear of things getting worse to buy them votes. Democratic politicians have a vested interest in keeping these people down in order to keep their power up. Do we need to do things to help the poor? Yes, but we need to help them become self-sufficient, not keep throwing them the table scraps that inefficient government programs deem necessary. The whole mentality of the poor needs to change in order to give them any chance of improving their lot in life and break the generational chain of welfare and poverty. They need to see the opportunities available for them, and not just the obstacles to success. They need to gain a real understanding of how money and credit can work to their detriment or benefit depending on if it is used wisely or not. Many of the working poor live that way because of unscrupulous buy here pay here car lots, a chain of Amscot loans ( where every paycheck gets an advance), rent to own furniture and other high interest debt that continually costs them a major part of their income and gives them little in return. School vouchers are a wonderful way to expose children in these situations to how people live in a higher economic classes by getting them out of traditionally low performing public schools where they are influenced by a peer group that sees failure as the normal, and kicks the crap out of anyone who tries to do better. The system is broken, but in a lot of cases the people are broken too.

The other thing to remember is that there will always be poor people. Some people just don't want much more than to eek by with as little effort as possible. I have known people like that and they frustrate me to no end. However, we do need to find a way to break the cycle of dependency for those who are not of this mindset, and who can become contributing members of society. I just know that government programs are not the solution because they do nothing to elevate people, they just keep them on life support until they die.

Ah yes, the trickle down theory, or in Michigan they call in the "p*ssed on" theory. So how's it workin' for ya?

ok so palin doesn't have foreign policy experience. who does? it's the president you truly decide foreign policy, so no one has true experience in it. sorry, ambassadors too.
besides, what's everyone talking about right now? domestic policy, which she does have experience in. i know the media likes to harp on alaska getting more money per capita, but they don't mention how damn big the state is or how few people there are.

Very well, thank you! I make around $20-25k a year, own 2 cars, one truck and a 2bed/2bath/1 car garage house with a pool. I have $60 total in consumer debt, have been able to return to college to complete an engineering degree over the last year, and after I finish refinancing my house later this month I will have a total of $850 in monthly expenses including my mortgage, utilities, cell phone and car insurance. Hell, I don't even work 35 hours a week and wind up several hundred dollars to the positive most months. I am probably going to buy a brand new car later this year, and have it paid off by 2010 by capitalizing on my ability to shift assets, and by using my monthly surplus to pay off additional principle on the front end of the interest period.. The new car will save me $200 a month in fuel costs too, netting me a $200 gain in monthly income and further reducing my need to work to around 25 hours a week by then, and allowing me to go full time to university and finish my degree at my calculated transfer semester of spring 2010. In the mean time, the payment will be equal to the offset in fuel savings of 20mpg vs 30mpg. Currently, I get about $1 a delivery which is equal to my cost of fuel, so it all negates at the end of the night. In the end, there may be a recession, I have just chosen not to participate in it.

I don't need government assistance to accomplish anything. I can do it myself if the government will stay out of my way and out of my wallet!
