air cleaner's

This may sound like a very stupid questions but how do you determine the size of a air cleaner for your motor
circumference, height of element and all that.

The bigger the better.
Get the biggest one that fits under your hood, as any air filter is proven to restrict the cfm of the carburetor.
I'm sure some are better than others with design. The racers can chime in on than.
I'd go with a K&N or even just a K&N element if you have another base and lid already.

Imo, a 2" filter will outflow a 4" filter. Takes more to pull air through the extra surface area of a 4" filter. They look good but looks can be deceiving.
