hey guys, my idiot brake light is on when the car is running, the brakes arent siezed up, could it mean the ebrake is still "engaged" when it's really not? 87 305 sbc cutlass, when i bought it i went through a bunch of the books and stuff that was in the glovebox & ended up coming across a sheet saying it needed a rear ebrake cable, im not sure if that's the case but is it a possibility?

Low fluid can do it, also if your pads/shoes are almost worn away, that can set that light off too.

when i changed the front brake calipers i bled the brakes and dirty grimey brake fluid came out, until the clean fluid came out- but i havent done the rears yet... could that be the issue right there or?

It could very well be that the e-brake is engaged I'd unbolt the black finishing cover under the dash which is only 5 bolts or so and it comes right out. Then check to see if the e-brake is touching the copper tab just enough for it to make the light come on. I had to redo my e-brake cables last year because they froze up and it was pretty hard. Clearance issues was the main thing, but if your going to redo you e-brake system the pedal attaches to the side of the car with 3 bolts. Then a small cable goes up through the floor and through a hole in the pedal which is mushroomed clipped in. The small cable connects to a junction that branches off to the 2 drum brakes which are also mushroomed clipped into the backing plate of each side hope that helps

The mushroom clip is circled in red, thought that no one would understand what I meant so I posted a picture
