Another gear question

I'm looking to put a posi in my 81 monte. I don't race it but I have done a motor swap (267 to 355)I found a cheap complete axle w/posi from an 85 monte that has a 2.41 gear, I'm guessing 7.5 cause I haven't seen it. I also found a 10 bolt 3.43 ring w/carrier and pinion from a non posi s-10. I haven't done much rear end work so my question is will this gear bolt right on to the posi assuming it's 10 bolt.

7.5's had two carriers, 3.08 and lower gears were on one carrier, 3.23 and up were on a different carrier. i have no idea what the actual difference is between the two but i do know that carrier 2 gears wont work on carrier 3 diffs and visa versa.

both have to be either for carrier 2 or 3. either will go into any 7.5 no problem.

you can run a 3 series gear in a 2 series carrier with a ring gear spacer that is like 50 bucks or less i believe. Or you can order a set of higher ratio gears for a 2 series carrier that just has a thicker ring gear thereby not needing the spacer

Thanks for clearing that up for me. I don't know if I want to go with the spacer. Plus the 2.41 is original so I'd have to put more work and money in it to rebuild. I know lots of guys beat up on the 7.5/7.6 for racing but does $500 sound like a good deal for a totally rebuilt 3.73(new posi, bearings) to put behind a mild 350 w/350TH
