Hello, I am from Missouri and Have a 78 Malibu, with a worthless 305 and was wondering if I should go with a 383 or a 406? I read somewhere that if I had any questions about a g body car, you all were the people to ask so, What do you all think?
I will be posting some pic's soon...Thanks in advance for any help.

Welcome!

The 305 isn't actually a lost cause, but if bigger displacement is what you want I'd go with a 383 and aftermarket aluminum heads...but I'm biased. It doesn't seem to be cost effective to go with anything less than a 383. But the 406 will make much better power with the right parts, are we talkin bout a 400 small block or a big block?

400 small block is one of my favorite engines...so I would get that over the 383.

383's are awesome. Ive installed a ton of them here at my shop. If you dont want to get into building one gm performance has a couple that are well worth the money and you can buy them right at your chevy dealer and save the freight.

Welcome to the forum. As far as I'm concerned, as long as you get that 305 outta there you'll be alright  Can't wait to see some pic's...

It's looking like the 383 is gonna be the winner, 400's are hard to find around here, The dirt track guys have just about cleaned us out but 350's can still be found. I got a good, clean one found for 200 buck and the same guys gotta 9" ford he will sell me cheap enough so in a few months I should be doing great, Thanks everyone for the ideas.
