Hey everybody i just found this site a little while ago and thought i would join up. Last fall my father and i purchased a 1978 Chevy Malibu Classic from the East Coast. Car came to us almost rust free but the paint needs redone. Since we bought it our only project has been swapping out the old 305 for a brand new crate 350. SO that's my story and i am going to have alot of questions for you all so sorry if i become annoying

The car we just found out has a Turbo 200 transmission so most likly this winter it will get a new rebuilt Turbo 350. Umm other than that the interior is the first thing after paint and hopefully those two things will be done by this fall in time for my Senior pictures

Nice ride. Reminds me a lot of my '79 I had in high school. About the turbo 200 trans, that thing will get chewed up by your crate motor. The TH-350 is a very good choice. I wish the tons of parts available now were available 15 years ago!! Good luck with your project.

Nice looking ride. I'd say a color change is in order. The Green doesn't look as good as GM thought it did back in the 70s. LOL

Car looks pretty clean, though. I def. like it. Too many questions? No such thing, that's where alot of my knowledge came from.
BTW, its usually a good idea to put exhaust on, then plugs in. The ceramic doesn't take to well to being bumed by other objects. I also like the well lit and bright garage. The steel rallye wheels are a classic, too. If u get rid of them, I'd love to have them. Its always a good look with those wheels.

just a tip, if u want a clean engine compartment, clean the sh*t out of everything with the engine out, its a pain in the *ss with the engine in

haha yeah we took out the plugs when we put on the headers here are some pics with the headers in

the plugs were simply just blocking the holes in that first picture.

As per the wheels yes they will be replaced this summer actually so i will let you all know when that happenes. This car is alot of fun and mostly because it is the first project i have been able to do anything on.

Oh yeah i almost forgot the car is gonna get painted a Toyota Camary Pearesent Green color. Only reason we are stickin with green is because we dont' want to flip the bills for a new interior right now.

Other plans are just A 2 or 4 in cowl hood, new wheels tires, paint, headliner, carpet, and full exhaust i think we are goin with 2.5 inch? well this is long so i will stop now before you all get bored

Nice looking set up! I had that same crate motor in my Elco when I bought it. I'd go with 2 1/2" exhaust if it was me. What kind of headers are those? I'm running Hookers on mine; not the easiest to get in there but no complaints. But I like what your doing with it. Keep the pictures coming! 😀

We are using Flowtech headers now and this week hopefully it will be going to get the exhaust my dad just ordered flowmaster series 40 mufflers and our exhaust guy is gonna try to do tru-duals with the 2.5 inch piping so it should be nice

Without a double hump trans. crossmember you'll be sacrificing major ground clearance with dual exhaust. If I were you & can spare another $115, I'd get a JEGS brand double hump crossmember.

Also, make sure the exhaust has either an "H" or "X" pipe.

Yeah make sure you get a crossmember or have the stock one cut. I recently had an H-pipe cut into my exhaust I'd I was impressed by the difference it made. You'll need one if you don't want to sound like a popcorn machine going down the road!

oh yeah we did get the jegs crossmember and it is in i will take some pics tonight of it
