Hi Guys,
I was considering swapping out my quadra jet for the Holley fuel injection kit. I was wandering if anyone has done this, and if they thought it was worth while. Pros? Cons? Any input would be appreciated.

The best place for a Pro-jection set up is in the trash...

We put that garbage on like 4 or 5 cars at work, and I was not impressed one bit.

Just wondering, what would you recommend?

I personally would go for the Accel DFI system, looks the best put together system out there. Plus Gail Banks uses it on their Twin Turbo motors.

I just got done using a holley projection system on my 80 malibu. That is the biggest piece of garbage ever produced. The only pro I saw to that thing is the quick response of the motor because of the fuel being sprayed. But I put my edelbrock 600 cfm back on and tuned it right this time and it gives better top end speed and launching capabilities. The projection system is a pain to tune and always seems to run rich. The problem with my situation was that I wasn't running a factory set up like it says in the manual. You are much better off going with a 4 barrel aftermarket carb. The electric solenoids are junk and the ECU has a tendency to die out because they overheat. I even wasted my money upgrading from 55lb injectors to 80 lb injectors.

Another problem is that you can't use any kind of heavy air cleaner. If you look at the fuel pod holding the injectors, the pod is held down by three screws that go into the base of the tbi. A big defect that has arised in this system is the ultra-sonics created by the injectors. Because the injectors hit a certain ultrasonic frequency, it weakens the metal substantially and causes those three dog ears being held down with screws to break off. My biggest suggestion is going with a simple edelbrock carb with an electric choke. I'm getting 18 mpg on mine and I'm running a completely aftermarket set up with 373 posi gears.

I would even go further and say you are better off building the Quadrajet that your car may have come with than this kit. The Quadrajet is very reliable once set up right, and very cheap. It also gets great fuel economy and excellent low speed throttle response. The only negative is that it is a carburetor and as such cold starts sometimes take a bit of warming up before you can drive the car.

If you must have EFI, consider a TPI with either a GM ECU, a cheap Megasquirt ECU, a Spectre EMS-Pro ECU or even a Greddy Emanage. None of these are a pure bolt on as they are not designed for the car, but they can all be adapted to work if you are willing to invest the time and effort. For me though, they are not worth the effort on an occasional use car where I will never make back the money saved in gas vs the price of conversion, so I am happy with my Quadrajet.
