Anyone know the calculations for tire size/rear end ratio?

What I mean is, I know when you change the size of your wheel/tire combo... you effectively change your rear end. Is it smaller = better? Or bigger =better? Cause I understand changing your rear end is like the best performance change you can do... and I was planning on changing wheels/tires anyways.

Kind of depends on what you want to do. If the rear gear you have now is too "steep" then going with a larger diameter wheel/tire would lower the rear gear ratio.
If you do the opposite and go with a smaller tire diameter it would increase your gear ratio.

effective ratio = (old tire diameter / new tire diameter) x original ratio

i'll have to look for the calculator for tire vs ratio but tire size isn't necessarily better or worse. a larger rear tire will give you more speed per revolution but will have more rotational mass, needing larger brakes and more power to turn.
