I may wanna put a four speed im my Malibu, im partial to stick. How involved would it be? i have a th400 in it now. Assuming i can get a couple of bucks for the th400 (its almost new) about how much for a swap if i get a used four speed, setting up the pedal....etc? any other things id have to do? just looking for a ballpark number.

I just did this to my '79 Monte. Plan on spending $2000 and you won't be suprised. It is possible to find the factory bellhousings and forks, but the forks are so scarce they are outrageous, usually around $200. And what are you gonna do if you need to replace the fork down the road?

What i did...
Lakewood bellhousing-450
Lakewood boot and pivot bearing-50
Jegs clutch fork-30
Out of a '69 corvette:rebuilt Muncie 4-speed, clutch and Hurst shifter-900
Brake pedal assembly and Z-bar linkage-300 (this was from musclecarsonly.com and were the cheapest i could find after looking for several months. Pedals appear to be factory equipment sold out of salvaged cars)

Not sure about your Malibu, my driveshaft lined up fine and the Muncie still rests on the factory crosssmember.

I've got a bellhousing, pedal assembly, linkage, and fork for sale. The whole shebang.
Basically everything you'd need except a trans, clutch, flywheel and shifter.
Let me know if you're interested...
