Hello friends
I'm stuck with a problem baking my brain. I need some technical advice on this.

My 1978 Pontiac Lemans needs a new axle housing (it has a GM 7.5 10Bolt) for these reasons: rust, deterioration on all the mounting parts, and the impossibility to get a decent brake upgrade (drum to disc) as the axle flange is only a weird rectangle with 3 mounting holes.

I'd like to avoid buying a used one and refurbish it myself, so a newly manufactured by Moser Engineering sounds good as they come fully assembled with the brakes I actually want. Buuuut they don't have a direct bolt on, so custom housing is needed. They do offer an assembly option for a 78-87 G-Body (Grand National). Check here:
http://www.moserengineering.com/com.../12-bolt-built-to-order-rear-end-package.html

According to Wikipedia the 1978 Lemans was build on the A-Body, renamed to G-body in 1982 after the new front wheel driven body was introduced as A-Body. So basically, if my theory is right, the above mentioned assembly should be a direct fit, unless the G-Body had some changes in its suspension configuration over the years...

Can you give me any input or share your experiences you had on same/similar issues? That would be great!

in my understanding, the only change to the a-body chassis was the name. I think the only difference in the chassis is between wagon vs elc vs sedan/coupe. That portion I am a little fuzzy on, though.

that's what I thought too, but apparently they techs at moser engineering are not sure either. would be cool to find a reliable source/book by GM on this. unfortunately the pontiac historical services are closed, so they won't be of any help here... would a request on the measurements of the mounting hardware (center to center of the coil, shock and control arms) help? if the techs agree to send me the info, i could check for myself...

I got a 79 monte. Ive had a stock 7.5 in my car. Had an 8.5 from a 87 gn and now an aftermarket 9".

There is no difference in the suspension as far as the rear.

The frame differences are that the 82 and up had a longer frame mount position for the trans cross member.

sounds good. guess i'll go for it ^^ thank you for the input ^^
