Replaced both rear axle seals since they were leaking a few drops after 1 year (replaced about 1 yr ago) while doing the rear disk brake swap. New one on the drvr's side is leaking again after only two weeks of installation (drop on the wheel) . I have run the car while on jack stands and never lowered it from the stands. These are National Seals, put in dry with no sealant on the surfaces, lubricated before installing axles, axle surface was not gouged and was smooth. Used a seal installer, checked the seal spring and it did not fall out! Any ideas? I hate pulling "C" clip axles.

You could try another seal, perhaps a Timken. Excellent chance the wheel bearing is worn enough to not help the seal's ability stop leaks.

How is the surface where the axle bearing rides? Any photos?

Edit : almost forgot - 'a drip' ? Is the drum /disc wet the entire circumference?

I think Timken and National Seals are the same company (Federal Mogul/Tenneco) Moog, FelPro, Champion, Sealed Power and on and on. Didn't check bearings! Ugh! Axle bearing surface looked very good. Maybe when I let the car down it will cease and desist! (Maybe)

Get a cross shaft bolt; it's gonna break.
Geesh you're a pessimist. Only one out of every two breaks. I pick heads and I believe I'll win on the next coin toss.

Kidding aside, he has already done this recently, I wouldn't expect an issue. Good luck😎

Before you take the cross bolt out. Put a socket on it with an extension and deliver a calibrated blow with a designated striking instrument. (IE hit it with a hammer) It will break any locktite

My experience has been 3/3 or 100%

I've taken this cross bolt out 2 times in the last year. Have had "C" Clip cars since 1965, done this a million times, never had one break. They are not that fragile especially since I do my own work and not a monkey-with-a-wrench. It comes out very easily for me. But thanks anyway.
