Hi all !!
My car 1984 Cutlass 3.8v6 soon 5.0 v8
My question: from which cars I can swap (bolt on ) axle with posi and disc breaks and 3.42/3.73 rear gear ? (Years makes)
Or should I build my 7.5" rear end ??
Ive bought 7,5-7,625 10 bolt GM 2 series (2,73) differencial but im not sure if it will fit to my rear end

thank You

I would think g-body's such as monte carlos or grand nationals would bolt in and some of them came with 8.5, posi, and gears in the lower 300 range.
Also have you thought of putting in a 350 instead of the 305?Mike

The best ratio would come in a Cutlass 442 or Monte Carlo SS from 1985-88, and that is a 3.73. A 3.42 came in the Grand National and the 1983-84 Monte SS. The Monte has a 7.625 in ring gear axle, and the other 2 are 8.5's. Limited Slip was optional in all 3 cars and not standard as it should have been.

The 2 series differential will not work with any of these factory 3.08 and numerically higher gear sets. You would need either a ring gear spacer, or a set of gears designed to run on a 2 series carrier. Companies like Richmond Gear sell gears that will work with the 2 series carrier.

Oh, I would add your location to your profile. That way, people will understand why you are doing a 305.

Poland. When G bodies were made, they were still behind the Iron curtain, and being sold cars like the FSO Polonez, which was one of their only choices. It's basically a Fiat 124 built under license, like the Russian Lada Riva. It was a car Fiat last made in the mid 70's, but it was made in Russia through the 90's.
