I have been doing some research and havent found anything clear cut.

Can a rear out of like a Caprice fit into a G body?

I got a hold of a 8.5 posi rear, ran the casting numbes and it came back as a Caprice rear.

Wider rears.......YOu would have to have the tubes cut and the perches moved a bit...Sorry to say it, keep looking you'll find something sooner or later.

its harder to alter that and install it than a ford 9", and the ford is more versatile... find a 10 bolt 8.5, get 31 spline axles and posi (or bigger, depending on your hp numbers, etc) or get a 9" in my opinion...

Well I already got a 8.5 in my monte now. I grabbed this for $100 to flip and make a few bucks.

An 8.5 posi with 3.23 gears I can easily get my money back. I took a gamble on it.

maybe ill come across a housing and just swap the parts if I cant sell the whole unit.

once I getm y motor finished I am going to have to go with a 9 inch because of the power ill be making.

10 bolt 8.5? yeh youll get your money anywhere from 600-1200 back...

after looking around for a used GN diff
below $1000.00 ( dint fiind ) and that you still have to upgrade ,
I went the ford 9" route
versatile , solid , cheap parts , and the looks !!!!
