Backside of trim.. some type of foam ?'s

I have all the weatherstrip and have done research but cannot figure out what it is that I scraped and cleaned off from parts on the body side. Seems like a thin, maybe 1/8th by 3/4ish wide foam single sided adhesive. Would anything like that work???

Yup. That's what it is. It came already installed on the parts. Just a thin foam pad. It's actually a weatherstrip itself, in an attempt to keep water/moisture from getting in behind the trim pieces.

In a rare move, I will respectfully disagree with one of the forum’s established body work experts.

I would not advise double sticky foam simply due to the fact that it will not be easy to install. It should stick to the backside of the trim pieces but be able to be moved and adjusted as necessary to align them.

If you’re careful and sure of final placement I could maybe see double sided sticky foam but in this area I don’t recommend it. Single sided sticky foam gets my vote. JMO.

Would the 3M or similar product strip calking work in place of the foam tape?

Caulk might be a tad thick. I’m not sure. But it’s a bit gooey as well and still could limit adjustability. There’s many thin sheet foam options out there. But the end user gets to make the choice best for them. I’m only opining why I would do the single side foam sheet.

I ordered single side adhesive 1/8th thick by 1" wide. I can trim width as needed. I was going to get double sided but I thought the same as 69hurstolds.
