I am going to install a double din apple car play / android auto radio in the car. I may as well run a backup camera since the interior is partially out.

Anyone do the install, and if so where did they mount the camera? Any pics?

Thanks

Atleast on a '81-'88 Monte, I have thought of getting one mounted against where the lock retainer is rivited to the trunk lid. Just haven't what would donate a camera.

I installed a Thinkware X700 in my car. It has front and rear cameras and GPS. It was $156 on Amazon in 2022. The rear camera is small and just sticks on the rear glass inside the car. The GPS is nice because it records your speed so you can prove that you weren't speeding or weaving or breaking any other laws. I guess that could be a bad idea in some cases! Years ago, I had a cop follow me through a 25 mph zone for over two miles at 1 am. He was so close that I couldn't see his headlights in my mirror. Nothing happened, but I'm prepared for the next time.

I used a Rexing M1 Pro dual channel dash cam in mine, I mounted the rear facing camera in the car, to the molding in front of the rear window. Because the actual camera display looks like and mounts over your stock rear view mirror, I just used the rear facing camera as my full time rear view. Once you experience that view you’ll never want to use a regular windshield mounted mirror again

When I did mine I was stuck using the Joying camera to interact with the head unit, I attached it to the bottom of the bumper. I also had to put a switch beside my shifter to turn it on when I put the car in reverse, I will probably be revisiting all of that since the image isn't the greatest anymore and need to see what I have to do to upgrade the quality at some point. If I had the option I probably would run it as a plate mount but with ours being mobile I think that would end up causing some problems down the line. Here's a pic where you can see the camera at the bottom of the bumper

Check out https://rexingusa.com They have a pretty good variety of different styles of dashcams, they also do night vision binoculars, trail cams, body cams etc. Their prices are reasonable and I think I paid $90 for my rear view mirror mounted, dual channel setup in April 2020, haven’t had a single problem with it, crystal clear video front and rear, night and day.

Appreciate it, forgot to mention the Joying unit has a front mount DVR that runs into the head unit that I can see live as well which is why I like the system

[td]Well I ended up mounting a license plate one, as fabricating something else to work seems to be a good amount of work and this is the easiest way.

I only test mounted it for now, it still needs to be wired up. Need to figure out how to run the wires outside the car, into the trunk. I believe there is a passage way in the left rear of the trunk.

Filling up this car is a total pain, unless I half squeeze the fuel nozzle at the gas station and allow it to fill slowly, otherwise fuel quickly backs up out of the fuel filler neck and spills outside the car. The tank doesn't seem to be vented at all.
