So, I'm installing my 454 into my freshly painted,re bushed, elCamino chassis last night, my Hedman block huggers hugged a little too much to clear the motor mounts. I carefully massaged the upper mounts with the cutoff wheel, maybe 3/8" removed from the upper rear of the motor half of the motor mount. I was now ready to swing the engine into the chassis, all is going well till I realized the header flanges are in direct interference with the engine xmember. doh! I now realize my ebay headers are not such a great deal, although they did look pretty cool on the engine stand. So, whats your solution? full length g-body headers are crazy expensive, and come with ground clearance issues. Sanderson makes some nice looking shortys, but also pricey if you get the good coating. new reproduction manifolds are more reasonably priced, and probably wont make a difference in performance with the low perf heads I have.I have entered the phase of my project where my mastercard is my most important tool,I prefer not to use it so much. Opinions?
