Can anyone that has a big block chevy in their g body post pics of the power steering pump and bracket setup? I have a stock style pump with aftermarket brackets but I cant fit the pump in between the block and steering box. Thanks

i just finalized a deal an got this 88(6 SS in the collection now :wink: ) with a 454 bored 30 over :puke: (sorry im a 3rd gen efi ls engine junkie!!!)im pulling this tomorrow and cleaning up the bay,an deleting the ac.ill get you some detailed bracket pics,as i think the one in it is factory? why dont you buy the brackets from quick performance to adapt a sbc serp set-up on yours? there pretty resonable,150.00 for the brackets,and i could get you a deal on the serp set-up? im going to do this after i clean the 461 up and then slang it,along with the rims to a texan i have a deal going on with(those texans love them a bbc)

Thanks LAX. I spent pretty good money for v belt pulleys so I wanna stay with them for now. I never heard of an issue with power steering on a big block in a g body before but its pretty evident mine will not fit. I will be waiting for photos :lol:

Heres one picture;

Unfortunately,I dont know exactly what the power steering pump might have came out of,it was in the Monte when I bought it.I'll see if I can find more pictures after breakfast.

Its not so much the pump as its the pulley. I guess I could use a smaller pulley but im only finding stock diameter pulleys. I have the stock location brackets. I will have to mess with it more to know for sure. Just wanted to see if there was a common problem

just remember the smaller the size of the pulley the faster the pump turns. The reason you'll have a hard time finding a smaller pulley is GM used the size of the pulley to keep the pump revolutions down at higher rpms

I believe mine looks similar to Guy's set up, mine is a BBC factory pump but I have a dual v-belt pulley with a third smaller pulley to run my crankcase vacuum pump, maybe try a slightly shorter belt to bring the pump closer to the water pump that would probably pull it up and away from the steering gear box.
It is kind of hard to see since my pump is buried under both vacuum pumps (crankcase and brake) but there is plenty of clearance between the pump/pulley and the steering box.

This is for the short BBC water pump, If I remember correctly 83MONTESS like most of us is running a long water pump and I have ran multiple BBC Gbody cars all using a stock power bracket set up with the LWP and none have had clearance issues and I have never heard of any either.
