really liking that cutlass and the green monte!

Interesting thread, though I don't have any pictures of it, back when I first got my malibu (2000) I lifted it about 3 inches via spring spacers to squeeze balloon tires on. Out back, I had 255 60 15 on a 9 inch wheel, up front was a 225 70 15 on an 8 inch wheel (5 slot mags to be more specific). That was also when I had to roll my rear wheel wells to clear the tires, as well as slightly clearencing the front. It looked so so, I kinda liked though, but it did sit higher than my friends mazda B2000 pick up  .

I will say though, once I decided to drop back down to normal sizes, the spacers had fatigued my springs into giving me a nice dropped look (as seen today on the car, lol). Talk about a 180, it went from not needing a jack what so ever to do an oil change, to needing an assist jack on the side to fit the regular floor jack under the crossmember  .

In the UK in the mid '70s raised suspension was popular with custom/hot rodders, sometimes just the rear -even on fwd cars  - and often the whole car. Chopped windshields were also popular in the day and metalflake paint was almost compulsory!.

They handled as you might expect and you couldn't see much through the letterbox glass area, but at the time they were as 8) as it got. 🙂

Roger.

a fwd lifted in the rear!?!?!? i can almost picture it. sounds cool enough to almost try  my 1st instinct is to go with an 89-90 cavalier Z24 lifted in the rear with standard offset 14x7's and 235/60's. oh hell yeah!! nobody better beat me to it!!!

oldsmotick i'm suprised to hear you had to lift the front to clear the 225/70. when i 1st got my camino it had 225/70's on a 15x7 chevy rally on the fron with broken springs(which were still broke when i sold it 😳 ) they only rubbed on the left side cuz the control arm bushings were trashed. surprised me too. when i switched to the chrome cragar protech fakes i found on cl they were a 15x7 and a 14x6 with 255/60 and 205/70 already mounted. i had to get the air shocks opperational to lift the rear just enough to clear .after that they fit perfect and i loved the look, the rite sized wheels and tires,a cool looking wheeel, the rite stance, the total package 😀

I had to lift due to the offset of the wheel, it was a 15x8 with probably a 3 1/2 back space, so they just about stuck out of the wheel wells. With the tire on, the fenders and quarters would scrap the sidewalls on the slightest bump, lol, what can I say dumb kid wanted big tires......wait a second, nothing's changed hahaha  Dumb guy still has big tires  (lifted Jeep).

My 80 Malibu coupe with 225/70-15s on 15x8 corvette aluminum wheels just caught the bottoms of the fenders. I would guess the "square" shape of the wheel opening would make them more likely to catch than if it were, say, a Lemans, with a more radiused opening.

Sat up pretty high with them...looked, but I guess all the pics of it were on a HDD that went belly-up. The current owner took this pic with the 235/60sF and 255/60sR that I put on after the 225s

Wow, I looked forever trying to find a G-body Malibu with those Corvette wheels before I put my ZQ8's on. They look just as cool as I thought they would.

I hate to say it, but the big wheels little tires look, looks 100 times better then the big tires little wheels look. 😳
