Hello all,

I guess this will be my build thread for my 82 Buick Regal. It's still a huge work in progress but I just got the motor I rebuild (2nd ever!) in it and took it for it's first drive today!

Bought it off a guy on craigslist because I needed a project since I'd recently sold my last project a C1500 that I'd rebuilt the engine in and didn't feel like doing the body work on. The guy was selling it because the engine wouldn't run, said the thought it'd broken the timing chain, but when he took the timing cover off the chain was still good and he didn't want to screw with it anymore. I've been a Gbody fan all my life and have owned 8 or 9 Gbodies and a couple of ABodies since I've been driving. Haven't had one since about 95 so when I saw this thing on craigslist I jumped on it. Getting this thing back in fighting shape is going to take lots of time and a WHOLE bunch of money but I'm having fun so who cares.

Here she is the morning after being delivered to the house! The Daytons are definitely coming off, not diggin the 13 in wheels.

Here is the old 305 someone had swapped in it, lucky for me the motor mounts and transmission (TH350) were already in there so it made throwing my SBC 350 in it easy. When I tore it down I found several nuts (as in squirrels eat them), a petrified grasshopper and lots of water and oil mixed in the oil pan! At least I got an Edelbrock Performer RPM and some pretty Chrome valve covers with the junk engine.

So I had a rebuildable 350 from my previous truck project so I took all my parts to the machine shop and had everything cleaned up. Ordered a rering kit from Northern Auto Parts and some goodies from Summit (cam, lifters, oil pump etc etc) and started building the 350.

Here is my box of goodies I got from Summit Racing!

Probably should have cleaned up the engine bay before I dropped the engine in but I was too excited to get it in there after I finished rebuilding it.

Here are some pics of the new motor in the car (before it got completely dirty hooking everything up.

I have to say, those engine lift plates are worth their weight in gold if you've ever jacked around trying to drop an engine with a chain. We literally came off the back of my friends truck bolted on the flexplate and motor mounts and had it in and bolted to the chassis in 30 minutes with that plate.

Decided to convert to a serpentine setup instead of using the old Vbelt setup that came with the car. A couple of trips to Pull a Part and Express U pull and I had all the mounts, Alternator, Power steering pump and a good used Serp belt. I decided to buy an A/C delete pulley from Advance instead of mounting an unworking A/C compressor.

Here is a pic of the old girl on her maiden voyage today....to the gas station of course!

Thanks for looking and any comments or suggestions are appreciated.

How does it run? Man, the box from Summit brings tears to my eyes! I love UPS and Fed Ex packages from Summit!!!!

anyway, cool build! I love the pic with the hammer in it. Any real mechanic always has a hammer nearby - lol!

Any clue what the deal was with the 305? Maybe you could use the 305 to power a hydraulic system to get the car to hop and jump. Put 75 PSI in those little tires!

Runs ok, it's my first time messing with a carburetor in about 20 years. My dad passed away several years ago so I wish he could have been here to help me get the thing started, got all my skills from him. Had a whale of a time getting it to TDC (#1 Compression) but once I finally got it there it hit on the first turn of the key.

Only problem I'm having is it ran about 185 or 190 in the C1500 and it idles at 210 and drops to 205 when I'm driving. Anyone think that's too hot? As for the Daytons they're outta here! I've got my eyes on some 18inch Billet Specialties once I get some paint on it.

Where are you? And how much you want for the daytons?

Nevermind. My brakes are as big as the rims. Oh well.

I don't know how much I'll want for the wheels, I asked the guy that sold me the car to keep em and just give me some steelies but he didn't have any. It had 15in Daytons on it so he swapped them out, I don't have a tool to remove the center caps so they'll have to stay on there until I get one.

Different thermostat? Is the system pressurizing? Will run cooler if pressurized. If it is lean it will run hot too. What are you doing for fans?

When you did the swap to the serpentine did you get the water pump that goes with it? If you're running the one off the old 305 you need to change it. I did this swap on my old El Camino and I found that the serpentine system to a reverse drive water pump. You may have to buy a new one to get the right part but it's well worth the money to not run hot. Hope this helps and good luck.

Yeah It's pressurized and moving water around, I've pulled the cap and watched it circulate when it gets hot. I ordered a water pump from a 91 C1500 so I know it's a reverse flow unit. I think I ordered a 195 degree thermostat, I'm going to try dropping in a 180 or 160 and see if that helps out at all. I also need to put my timing tape on the balancer so I can see where my timing is...my pointer stops at 12btdc.

Good luck with the build, looks like you got a solid start with a nice small block under the hood!
