So I've done motor swaps, trans installations and crossmember mods, suspension builds. And now I am laughing at myself because after all of that experience a blinker lever on my switch is stumping me lol! I need the switch for another car whose highlight function broke, I got the column tore down to the switch but I can't get the blinker lever out of it so i can pull it out. I tried 'lefty loosey" but after I gave it a little arm didn't feel right, so I stopped. Found another forum but for an 85' that said in pulls straight out? any info would be appreciated. Its the coming out of a 1979 cutlass with tilt, into a pontiac safari also with tilt column.

thanks,
wade

You must use a little force to get it out, but it does indeed pull straight out away from the column. It has a little hump on the turn signal stalk that fits inside a depression in the steering column so its a tight interference fit. Grab ahold of it and tug firmly, it will come out.

thank you, got her done today, the switch replacement fixed alot of probs, now my highlights work, and all the blinkers, while I was at it I fixed that annoying tilt wobble with the amount thread lock in there she will never back out again hehe! but for some reason I still dont have reverse? Is the reverse switch part of the blinker switch, I know its manually operated by the shift linkage via the column but is it seperated like the highlight switch thats operated by action in the column that depresses the rod that goes down bout halfway? If not I got some tracking down to do tomorrow, starting with easy stuff.......like checking the bulbs first hehe!

thanks
wade

Backup lights are activated by the crescent-shaped switch at the base of the column, near the floor. Same switch is used for neutral / park starting. Early models could be adjusted by loosening a couple mounting screws. Later "G" models were self adjusting.
