okay guys... I have a feeling my engine is experiencing blow by,

I currently do not have a pcv valve setup, just a hose that goes to nowhere. I will be putting a pcv to the carb asap. There is smoke comming out from the hose. (I'm aware this is caused from crank case pressure)... but the smoke is continuous, and not in spurts.

I've read that a continuous flow of smoke is a definite case of blow-by... is this true?

my engine specs are as blow in my signature. The engine was built in 2005, and only driven a few times a year until 2008. In 2008 and 2009, I've driven it ALOT, to work and back everyday, and drag raced 2 or 3 times each year. I would say the engine is now around 10 - 12,000 kms.

if the engine was old and "warn-out", I would expect this sort of problem. However, 10k - 12k is not exactly "old" and "warn-out".

I have checked the oil, it is good but dark (not milky). There is no white exhaust or hints of headgasket problems. I've also checked the coolant, and besides being old, it seems clean and oil-free. And there is no dark or coloured exhaust smoke or signs of valve lash problems (they are closing properly). I will be doing a compression test this weekend to confirm.

any thoughts? videos to show exactly how much is too much, would be great!

You said it doesn't smoke but does it burn oil at all between changes? Then I'd think rings are either worn or didn't seat correctly.

I notice on my car that when I check the oil after gassing up there's a smoky haze hanging around under the filler cap. I don't know if the amount I have is normal or not. The car does eat about 1/2 to 1 qt between changes, and I know that it's getting tired. A head gasket blew on my dad once, but we didn't recondition anything at the time.

what is a leak down test?

and no, the car does not burn oil between changes. The oil level stays perfect, and the exhaust burns clean and clear with no colour. The engine runs smooth, and with no signs of wear.
When it was built, it was balanced and blue printed (in 2005). Because of the heavy cam, the idle is lumpy, but it does not miss fire or struggle. I do notice some knocking in early Spring and late Fall because of the "winter gas" they use here in Ottawa. I have 58cc heads and flat top pistons, so I run 91 Shell only.

A leakdown is basically a test to see how much air is escaping from the cylinder, either past rings, intake/exhaust valves, or any combination of the 3.

Mileage doesn't mean a thing when it comes to rings seating... they could lose their seal at 500 miles or 300,000 miles.

thanks guys,

anymore comments would be good!

Definitely put a PCV Valve in your system, the hose to no-where may be sucking up your oil loss between changes. Also this may save your seals from blowing out due too crank case pressure and causing a leak.
