blue smoke

I have a 1983 buick regal with a 3.8 liter V6. It runs prety good; but I notice blue smoke at idle and as I drive. My guess is a valve job. Anyone know what's the average cost of a valve job and or a complete engine rebuild?

you could do a compression and leak down test to get an idea on what's wrong. How many miles on the engine?
