So last May wife got ran off the road and tore open driver side quarter panel on the 05 GMC Yukon XL
So took it to a shop in town where they have done really nice work on our cars at work so when this happened I was thinking I got a good shop to take it to. Was I wrong
1st time getting it back it was wrong body panel was sticking out did not match other side so I took a stock oem fender flare set I bought and try to mount it wasn't close to fitting so they agreed to fix it after 30 mins of telling them it was fixed wrong
2nd time fixing it so they thought hard lining it at the body line was acceptable so after 15 mins saying WTF is that who the hell thinks this is right who ok'ed this work to be acceptable for pick up
So they said I don't know we'll fix it so I call my insurance agent all he says is they have to keep fixing it till your happy I said really 3 times he said if its not done right this time then I'll get claims involved in it I said ok but I'm not to happy.
So I get it back from the 3rd time I'm still not happy how it looks so back a few months ago i was washing it and I noticed the body filler is cracked and chipping also rust is bleeding out of the crack called my agent tell him what's going on he tells me I can go to a different body shop so I go to another body shop they're set to work on the truck one Monday they get a phone call from the insurance company saying don't work on it. Insurance Company calls me tells me I have to take it back to the same shop that originally did the repairs told them they had three tries they're not getting a fourth try that's all we're going on 3-4 months and they want me to keep on taking it back to the same shop anybody run into this problem

Been with State Fram and same agent for 23 years when this gets resolved I'll be looking for different agent I shouldn't be doing all the calls it's been two weeks since I've talked to State Farm and they said they'll be in touch

Yep!
My Wifes 18 Cherokee was hit in rear passenger door last year and it only had like 3000 miles on it. Took to a shop that has done really good work for us over the years.
1st time, paint didnt match at all, 2nd time it matched but looked absolutely horrible. 3rd time was okay, but could see the wet sand marks and swirls. Told them I would fix that myself because obviously their guy cant buff out a panel. Washing her Cherokee yesterday and body filler is cracking and rust is bleeding out as well. I will be going in the body shop to raise hell this afternoon.

It's like nobody has pride in there work they do anymore. For us that have pride in our work and go the extra mile and we get looked at like we belong in a nut house. I come to the conclusion we're the dying breed

Nearly every body shop sucks nowadays. Skill sets are dying off, and to find a good bodyman is like finding your wallet full of money. Doesn't happen very often. Plus, the insurance companies want to pay 100 bucks for a $1000 worth of work. So there's that. Sad to see. NO production shop is worth a f**k anymore based on the work I've seen and heard about. None of them. They've become parts replacement specialists and paintwork looks like it comes from a model car paint spray can.

i worked in a body shop for 14yrs. flat rate and and owners pushing to get more work moved through shops really killed quality of repairs. body work is not something you can set a flat time on. temperature and humidity are variables that affect filler curing, paint curing, tack time between coats etc but most shops go for volume. if its not drying fast enough put a heat light on it.

So much dissatisfaction in my experience too - missing spot welds, crappy bondo, sanding marks, paint, shrinkage, delays, lifting paint, bubbles, and so on. I have pretty much resigned myself to learning new skills and holding myself accountable.

Sounds like my marriage.
