Body shop vs state farm vs me

State Farm sucks!!!

So does that body shop!!!

That sucks. Trying to find a quality shop today is more work that it shoud be. Worst is when one goes down hill after years of quality work. Outside of getting rear ended by a millionaires' adult kid to be inturned rear ended by the cop in the accident report that put me at fault (long story & I get really angry explaining it) the stealership shop that did the work on the POS '08 Silverado was beyond great with the guys that was there. The body work related issues the took care of at no cost to me. Leak in the cab-they worked on it, clear on the bed side chipped-resprayed it with both color & clear, rust spots where they welded-cleaned & repainted. They even checked the codes on the air bag system when it acted up. Then they got new guys & refused to do warranty rust/paint repairs on their work which burnt me on some trade in money when it was traded. For you issue try to contact your state office that regulates the insurance companies to report your dissatifaction about how State Farm is handling it.

The other body shop that wants to do the work said they want to grind the body work off and see what they did which I understand completely but said it may need a quarter panel which that's what I told the first shop to write it for so I'll be back on the phone tomorrow with State Farm. On top of all this since it has rust now they wanted to know if I can contribute to it I said there was no rust there when it went in body shop so I'm not contributing anything they should of not cut corners from the start.

The wife wrecked her 2000 Nissan Maxima quite awhile ago. Body shop slams it back together and days it's ready to go. Get there and one headlight is so yellow you can't see through the lens, the hood feels like 80grit sandpaper. They send my wife home with it like that. I took it back and let them have it!! Goon says the insurance says that headlight is good because it's a used factory part in a used car. The other headlight is perfect. I refused to accept it. Also made them cut the hood. Bunch of hacks.

What the... Who did that repair? I swear, I think my 15 year old grandson could have done better. That's horrible.

I would say which body shop it was, so people here know to stay away. At least the City, and if someone is in the City, they could PM you and you could tell them which one, so they stay the hell away...

Sorry to hear that. Never had State Farm.. I run Progressive and I've had absolutely Zero issues with them.. altho Ive only had one claim with them.

I run Geico on the motorcycle, and one claim as well.. I had my girlfriend (wife now) on the back in my driveway (gravel) and she got on, I got on, I pulled the bike up to put the kickstand up, and my foot slid in the gravel, went over on the right side. I fell off, she fell off.. we laughed, righted the bike, and went on (I have highway bars, it went over about 45 degrees, no damage to the bike, but enough to toss us off as we weren't expecting it). An hour or so later, she was complaining about her wrist. I took a look, and it was swollen. Hospital time.

Turns out, she fractured two small bones in her wrist. (I guess older gals can't take a fall very well anymore). removeable cast, pain meds, couple weeks off work.. yadda yadda.. Geico called her a day later and offered her $5k! (She wasn't going to do anything, sh*t happens.. obviously, I was going to help her out, cover expenses out of my own pocket - its just the right thing to do in my book) and covered all medical with no qualms, complaints, or even my deductible. I had never had a claim, and apparently my deductible went away over time. Now, I run with a $10k medical rider, on top of 100/300, $8k accessory, road side, trip interrupt, etc.. all they offer, basically... the good sh*t.

I still say to this day - Don't screw around with Insurance. Don't buy the "basic, cheapest" coverage. Spend a few bucks and get the better coverage and some perks. If they see you're buying the good stuff from them, claims are a lot easier. (That's not a knock on the OP - I have no idea what coverage he has, nor do I assume he had the cheapest, I'm simply giving advice in general)

Body shop is Service King in Lockport,IL
But what I'm hearing is , it's all Service Kings that don't do good work

No offense, Gonzo, but Geico and Progressive are probably the worst shortcutters after Liberty Mutual.

I work in a collision shop, we're on SF's program. It really comes down to making the case to them enough times to get what you need to do the customer right. Unfortunately, many shop owners/managers do not want the fight, and take the path of least resistance. For many, the "threat" of being removed from the program and losing the referrals is something they cannot stand financially. We're fortunate that we have a lot of loyal bad drivers as customers, we are on the program more as a way to speed things up than for the referrals.

There are good techs (2 in our shop) and there are mediocre techs (1 in our shop) , and there are all-out hacks (1 in our shop) who turn a lot of hours. Sadly, many owner/managers can only see the hours flagged by the hack. In my case, I get to fix many of the hack's shortcuts/omissions, for which I am compensated. I try to prevent the worst offenses from happening, BEFORE something irreversible goes down, but some stuff just makes me wonder how this guy is still employed.

They (Service King in general) don't have a great reputation, but insurance companies love MSOs (multiple shop operation) because they will wh*re themselves out on compensation to get the volume.

We had one open here a few years ago. First thing they did was cut flat-rate tech pay by $2/hr, then told them that they could make as much as they wanted, because they would give them a key so they could work evenings/weekends.

We're top rated for CSI on Farmers program, but it doesn't matter, because the MSOs get the top spots on the referral list at the call center (which is 4 miles up the road from us).

None taken at all! I was just giving my, albeit limited, claims experiences. I have no complaints. Doesn't mean I might if, god forbid, something more serious happens. It does make me want to talk to them about the Grand Prix tho.. I tried Haggerty or "classic car insurance" but none of them will take it.

I always appreciate people's experiences, good, bad, or indifferent. Thanks!
